One man’s generous donation is brightening up a coastal town in England with
bursts of blooming daffodils. After Canadian banker Keith Owen was diagnosed
with terminal cancer in 2007, he decided to leave his £2.3m life savings to the
Sid Vale Association in Sidmouth — the place he planned to retire. His wish was to
have his money "support local projects" in the area. After his passing, more than
150,000 bulbs of snowdrops, daffodils, and crocus were planted. Now, nearly 15
years later, the gorgeous flowers are painting the hillsides with blooms of yellow
for locals to enjoy. Said Ed Harrison of the Sidmouth Civic Society: "Every year it
brings back happy memories of this man who did this amazing thing for the town."
