Origin of the "Teddy" Bear


Feb 15: The "Teddy" Bear Was Introduced
Morris Michtom, toy store owner and inventor of the teddy bear, spoke with Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his nickname "Teddy" for this toy. Michtom placed two stuffed bears in the store window and labeled them "Teddy bears." The teddy bear quickly became a national childhood favorite and was being produced soon after by many other manufacturers.
