What is ShareWaste?

We connect people who wish to recycle their food scraps and other organics with their neighbours who are already composting, worm-farming or keep farm animals.

Now you can divert organic material from landfill while getting to know the people around you!

Michelle and Paul love healthy food and cook lots of veggies. But they don’t have room for a composting bin. With ShareWaste, they donate their kitchen scraps to their neighbour Anna who has two worm farms. Together they make new soil!
This is John. He works for a big company and travels a lot because of his job. With ShareWaste, he can find a host to recycle his organic waste anywhere he goes.
Anna enjoys taking care of her garden. She has two worm farms which produce new soil and fertilisers for her plants. Michelle and Paul regularly bring her their kitchen scraps; Anna's worms just love the cucumber peels!
The Parsons live in a house with a backyard. They keep chickens and, naturally, have a composting bin. Thanks to their donors from ShareWaste they always have enough scraps to feed the chickens and make fresh compost for their veggie patch.
ShareWaste connects people to recycle their organic material, make more soil and grow produce. We bring together hosts (who receive organic material) with donors (who donate their organic material) to process kitchen scraps and other organics into new soil.

Where can I get it?

ShareWaste will work in any modern web browser but we recommend downloading our free mobile app.

How do I start?

Click an option below to sign up and connect with your neighbours. Choose whether you want to contribute or receive organic material and let's get the ball rollin'!

I'm a
Donor

Find a neighbour with a composting bin, worm farm or chickens. Send them a private message to arrange a drop-off.

I'm a
Host

Tell us where your composting bin, worm farm or chickens are located. We'll add a marker on the map. We support both individuals and community gardens.

I represent a
Cafe

Pick this option if you represent a cafe that would like to be on the ShareWaste map and give away spent coffee beans or other organic material.

Want to help us grow?

Then spread the word and tell all your friends and neighbours! We have a brochure and a poster you can easily share with others.

We prefer digital sharing as it has low environmental footprint. That said if you'd like to print our materials go ahead; only please print as few copies as you can.

For example putting the poster on a community or work noticeboard is a good big-impact low-footprint approach.

Why ShareWaste?

format_quoteShareWaste to our family is what a community is meant to feel like, supportive, kind & neighborly. We give our food scraps so mother earth can receive nutrients through composting. ShareWaste helps stop methane being produced in landfill and helps our composters veggie patch blossom. A win win for all involved.

format_quoteFood waste is a huge challenge, and Sharewaste is creating solutions at the grassroots by connecting composters with food scrap donors. Camdenville Paddock Community Garden is proud to be part of the solution.

format_quoteShareWaste solved the exact problem I had! Composting was something I wanted to do for a long time but was unable to. ShareWaste introduced me to my neighbours who could accept my scraps for their compost. I think many other people have this problem too!

format_quoteI have been using Sharewaste in two cities and only had positive experiences. I have met lovely people. In Brisbane a number of local students dropped off their veggie scraps to my compost bins. When I moved to Sydney, I wanted to be a part of the Sharewaste community so I encouraged

my daughter to list her compost bin on the website. She has ended up with six regular keen local donors, including people who were transitioning to wormfarms (but produced too much waste) and bokashi bin users who had no place to put their pickled post-bokashi scraps. ShareWaste is a great way to meet enthusiastic and like minded local residents while reducing our impact on our world!

format_quoteI started using ShareWaste when my bokashi bin became full. I was amazed by how many people within close range were willing and able to take on my waste! I have been touched by how trusting the community is welcoming

strangers into their front gardens, backyards and homes! One Share Waste community member even gifted me a carton of eggs once laid by the backyard hens that would be munching on my food scraps. Thank you ShareWaste for the wonderful network you have enabled!

format_quoteShareWaste is an awesome app, thank you! My composting host Julie has tirelessly accepted around 60L of kitchen scraps every week from us for the last 6 months. It’s been a fun and enlightening experience. With the combination of Julie’s worms and compost and recycling

our soft plastics we’ve reduced our extra - large household garbage bin by two thirds! This will save us money every year as we have been paying for a large bin. No to mention reducing our negative environmental impact. I now have my own worms and compost and will continue to compost daily.
